'Screens' (Screen Studies)

‘Screens’ is an entirely unique body of work within my artistic oeuvre. Maintaining my fascination with both the physicality and conceptual concerns of the digital screen, this work started through the process of painting. I painted directly from referring to the screen itself, without any image being displayed. Looking at the screen as an active and physical being of its own, the blue-toned glowing entity was seen in combination with the build up of static dust and streaky fingerprints across it. In this way, the paintings themselves become literal Screen Studies. Working with four ‘screens’ references how we are always glancing at multiple screens, without ever really taking it in - we ‘look’ but we don’t ‘see’. As such, ‘Screens’ portrays a mutated viewing experience, synonymous with that we experience when viewing digital screens.
